Torre del Mar

Only 18 km (approx. 17 min. by car) from Chilches, visit Torre del Mar.

 

Torre del Mar is located in Malaga province in the east end of the province between the capital Malaga and Granada province. The entire southern border is the Mediterranean Sea.
 
This area is called La Axarquia (the name is of Arabic origin and means: The place east of).
 
La Axarquia (Malaga and province) is situated in the south of the southernmost of Spain's 17 autonomous regions of Andalusia, the coastal area of Malaga province is known as the Costa del Sol.

Torre del Mar is a coastal suburb of the capital of La Axarquia, Vélez-Málaga. Vélez-Málaga is around five kilometres from the coast inland. Torre del Mar is located approx. 30 km. east of Malaga and about. 90 km. from the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. The town has approx. 16,000 inhabitants, but in the tourist months, the number is approx. 100,000.
 
Torre del Mar is an important gateway to the sea in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga. Originally it was a defensive line of Vélez-Málaga and a shipping port for la Axarquia products. This old fishing village has grown in recent decades exuberant but controlled. Today it is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol.
 
Torre del Mar has hotels, apartments, restaurants, discos, Chiringuito (beach restaurants), Fitness and entertainment centres, such as a water park, etc. 
 
  

At the exit from the city towards Nerja is the most important fishing and marina between Malaga and Motril, the port of Caleta de Vélez. 
 
Torre del Mar beach promenade, which is approx. eight kilometres long, is considered the largest and finest on the Costa del Sol.
 
In 1998 opened, a new autovía between Málaga and Torre del Mar, which has given further impetus to the development.
